Scalds and burn injuries result from hot liquids or steam touching the skin and sometimes cause tissue damage that can be life-threatening if the skin is not repaired correctly. In the event of a serious burn injury or death caused by the carelessness of an organization or a third party, contact a Geneva personal injury lawyer to hold them legally accountable. Listed below are some of the important first aid techniques that can help you ease some pain until help arrives.

Evacuate the victim from the vicinity as quickly as possible.

Cover the flames with a blanket, or dump them with water. Do not expose yourself to the risk of getting burned.

Remove any clothes or jewelry from the region of skin that has been burned. However, do not attempt to remove anything adhering to the scorched skin since this may result in more injury.

Run cool or lukewarm water over the burn for atleast 20 minutes. Avoid using ice, iced water, creams, or anything greasy.

Maintain a comfortable temperature for yourself and the other person. Use a shawl or blanket to keep the damaged region warm, but don’t place them on the affected area. Hypothermia occurs when an individual’s body temperature falls below 35 degrees Celsius (95F).

Use cling films to cover the burns. Instead of wrapping the cling film around your limbs, place it on the burn. Hand burns can be treated using a clean, transparent plastic bag.

Consume paracetamol or ibuprofen pills to relieve the pain of a burn. When taking any medicine, always follow the manufacturer’s directions. Children under the age of 16 should not be allowed to use aspirin.

When your face or eyes are burned, try to sit as erect as possible.  Try not to lie down, as this will aid in the reduction of inflammation.

In case of electrical burn, seek immediate medical aid. Turn off the power supply or remove the injured person from the source of electricity using a non-conductive object if the voltage is low (up to 240 volts). Approaching someone struck by a high-voltage source is dangerous (1,000+ volts). Please don’t go near them.

Various factors can contribute to the recovery time from a burn injury. However, in some unfortunate instances, the victim may succumb to death. This risk factor is especially dire for children. Medication can help, but many times there are complications that arise when dealing with ttactics the need for medication.
