Six years ago, when I wrote this blog post on the subject, I was just getting back into writing. There’s no way the internet can keep me away from it! But now that my days of daily writing have come to an end, my thoughts turn to new projects and activities. So many of them! Instead of looking forward to having a leisurely day, which would be filled with reading, thinking about what I’ll make for dinner, and who I’ll be visiting tomorrow, I thought it might be a good idea to list down some activities that enth OECD adults in sub-Saharan Africa (ASA) could take up instead.
Today’s activities
This is a list of activities for today’s list, which you can use as an emergency list if you’re in trouble or in a rush.
Games
Like any other sport, board games are great for teaching important cultural and economic skills. But there are a few games that stand out as having the potential to be epidemic. They can be used as a way to pass the time before you’re expected to get home from work or school, or they can be used as a way to gain extra energy and enthusiasm before you head out on a real adventure.
What I like best about these games is that they are fun. They are not academic or research-based, but are just fun. And the end goal? To win the thing.
Shopping
If your goal is to get yourself in better spirits, then have at it. Whether you’re looking for some snacks to take with you when you go shopping, or you’re looking for ways to make your day brighter, there are plenty of things to do at home that will do the trick.
One of the things that people who lead full time jobs are often faced with is dealing with their apparent lack of time. They might find it hard to get to work or school because they’re waiting for their kids to grow up so they can take them to the park to play, or they might be busy working and not have time for anything else. That time lost doing things like taking a quick walk to the grocery store, making themselves a home-cooked meal, or even just spending some quality time with their partner.
Fitness and nutrition
If you’re one of the people who find it hard to get enough sleep, you may be interested in seeing what you can do about it. A study found that individuals who reported having a problem sleeping were more likely to report having a sleep-disordered breathing problem, which can affect your daytime alertness and quality of life.
Another way people who lead full time jobs can cope with the fact that they’re short-handed is by being more patient with themselves. While you may be exhausted from work and school, you might also be stressed out from constantly waiting for your loved ones to wake up from bad sleep habits.
Culture and arts
If you love to spend time with your family and friends, you may be interested in what you can do to make their day brighter. Giving them something they can always rely on for support and inspiration is a way to ease their worries and show them you care.
This may include things like a planner that lists all the things that happen in your life each day, or an app that helps you stay on track.
Cooking
If you love to make meals for your family and friends, you may be interested in trying out new ways to add some flavor to their meals. For example, you might be interested in making them oatmeal at night, or adding peanut butter and jelly as a component in the day.
Another way people who lead full time jobs can improve their moods is by spending some quality time with their family. This can happen at home, at work, or during vacations.
Online education
If you find it increasingly difficult to get enough sleep, or you’re interested in taking your mind off things that are happening in the real world, learning new ways to relax and forget about things can be a way to get some shut-down time.
For example, you may find it more healing to get a deep sleep on the couch with a good book than you do sitting at your desk trying to research a new project. Or, you may find that the added stress of being home can actually make you more stressed out. These are all good signs that something is wrong. So, if you’re not sure what to do or what to think, talking it out with your family can help you figure it out faster.
Lists and blogs
Like many activities, lists are a great way to clear your mind and clear away the stress that comes with it. They can also be a way to let loose and meditate on a topic you’re interested in.
One way to clear your mind and unclog your body is to take a list of all the things that are most important to you. For example, if you’re trying to get better in general, this could be your “to do” list, or it can be your “to do” list for specific occasions.
Another way to clear your mind and unclog your body is to try out different breathing exercises. While they may not feel too great on your own, they can actually be incredibly helpful for reducing stress.
Conclusion
Mornings always feel more Like Monday because there’s always an excuse for being up. So, it’s not a surprise that we get stuck in a rut of repeating the same events and tasks over and over again, while neglecting the advantages of a different way of doing things. It’s like being stuck in a rut with the worst of both worlds – not having a choice in what you do and not having a choice in what you don’t do.
That’s when fresh start syndrome kicks in. You realize you have all the time in the world to do whatever you want, whenever you want, and not just when someone else is supposed to be doing it. Then, suddenly, there’s an option to choose which activity you want to do.
